Newborn Heart Defect Screening Awareness Day « about proximity
My son Kellen was diagnosed with Coarctation of Aorta (pinched aorta) at 2 months old. He was born December of 2009 via c-section. At his two month check up our Nurse Practioner heard a heart murmur, that was our first sign of anything being wrong. We were referred to a cardiologist, and through a series of tests a heart defect was found. He never showed any signs of distress – nothing to show us that he had a very weak pulse in his lower extremities, his heart was enlarged from working so hard and his blood pressure was that of an adult. We traveled to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor at three months old for surgery.
