Giving Tuesday started as an idea and grew to a huge effort, encompassing over 2000 amazing nonprofits and related groups who wanted to help people give back in the same way they shopped til they dropped: with passion and drive! Though I love shopping for deals as much as the next guy (when we have the money!), there’s something almost … hopeful … about an initiative to help us give more, isn’t there? Attending school shouldn’t mean choosing between life and death, but for 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai it has long been a choice between right and wrong, as well as life and death. Yousafzai has long been an advocate, writing first under a pseudonym for the BBC about the difficulty Pakastani girls faced in trying to attend school.

Shot by the Taliban in retribution October 9, 14-year-old Malala and two other classmates were gunned down for daring to attend school, and Malala herself was specifically singled out by the shooters.

It’s one global cause that started in the hearts of small-town America in 1950 and grew year by year into one of the largest efforts to fundraise for a global charity on behalf of children the world over. It’s an organization dedicated to helping children all over the world, to help provide them with the essentials for living and thriving despite poverty and apathy. Using my influence and being a part of the social media for social good movement means that I am leaving a legacy to my children and to this world about where my passion in life truly comes from.

It only takes one person to make a difference in this world with one action, one word, one cause … at a time. We can change the world if we are only willing to drive others to action through our own passion for service and social good.
