As a mom and former math teacher, I can certainly appreciate these statistics. We need our kids to be fully prepared to learn every day at school. They can’t do that if they are absent (health issues from hunger) or simply starved from not eating breakfast. Seriously I get plenty to eat and I am totally distracted when I skip a meal and yet as an adult I know I have the resources to eat at my leisure. (via Help End Childhood Hunger with No Kid Hungry)

Lee and I are mall walking champions! We meet up almost every weekend for a little exercise and a lot of catching up. I recently learned about a cool social good fitness app that will allow us to earn money for social organizations at the same time! Using Charity Miles makes our mall walking a trifecta event: Fun and Fitness for us and Funds for a charity! In April 2010, the Centers for Disease Control reported that only one out of five children in the United States lives within a half-mile of a park or playground, and the availability of places to play looms far worse in low-income neighborhoods. KaBOOM! designates these child-rich, playspace-poor neighborhoods as Play Deserts. (via Help kaboom save play)

As a desert dweller, I know water is a precious resource. A resource I believe most Americans take for granted. Many people don’t have that luxury. There are 800 MILLION people worldwide who do not have clean, safe drinking water. And 2.5 BILLION people don’t have a safe place to use the bathroom. Water is essential to life; Clean water and safe sanitation is essential to thrive. (via Clean Water and Safe Sanitation)

I know a lot of people love giving back especially during the holiday season, so I wanted to share another option with you. Aziz Ansari’s (from the funny comedy Parks and Rec.) asks you to be a goat this holiday season. You are what you give after all. (via help support Oxfam USA)

#GivingTuesday is tomorrow (11/27) and since it’s a new movement, I wanted to share some #GivingTuesday Tucson ideas on how you can help make a positive impact in our community!

Meet Esther Madudu she is one of the real heroes. She may look ordinary but she really is Extraordinary! She is a midwife in rural Uganda helping save lives in a facility with no power. It’s estimated that she has saved the lives of hundreds of mothers and babies to date! (via Thank a Health Care Worker with a REAL Award Nomination)

So while you are prepping for the sales, set aside sometime to brainstorm ideas with your friends and family . A very appropriate topic for Thanksgiving in my opinion. Check out the Giving Tuesday website for some great ideas. Be sure to follow Giving Tuesday on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest for updates and ideas on how to make #GivingTuesday a success! The global food system needs to be fixed. Some people have an overabundance of resources and others have none.  Oxfam America has created a campaign, GROW to help make a difference in the world food problem.
