The brilliant group of SHE of course have figured out a way to help with this problem. They have developed the SHE LaunchPad that contains absorbent material derived from argo-waste (banana fibers). The pad is also made without the use of chemicals or super absorbent polymers and the final cost for each product is 5 cents per pad. the goodness of the project does not stop there though, SHE is working with the community to obtain the banana fibers from the community and helping women become entrepreneurs with education and other resources. Maternity Worldwide is an organization looking to change what would have been my outcome in many developing countries. The risk of dying during pregnancy or childbirth in a developing country is 1 in 150. Compare this risk to 1 in 3800 in most developed countries. Then compare this stat with the ratio of 1 in 39 for sub saharan Africa. (via Maternity Worldwide: My Birth Story | My Chocolate Peaces)

I had tears in my eyes when I heard about the idea of the REAL awards. I know so many amazing healthcare workers that tirelessly walk the floors, research and watch for any opportunity to help. I love the idea of this award show and feel that it is long overdue. That nurse at your bedside is amazing. That tech that takes your vitals is enthusiastic. That aid worker in Africa is an angel to everyone they touch. I remember running into the wife of a patient I had several years ago and she thanked me for saving her husbands life. To me I was just doing my job, but to her it was the world.

We all know about Black Friday. Please be safe if you are doing the early morning shopping- I don’t want to hear about any of you being trampled!

Not too long ago there was then the development of Cyber Monday. Well I have not heard of any typing injuries… but maybe watch out for some scams. I am sure they are out there.

Finally, I would like to invite you to join me for Giving Tuesday.

Worldwide there are millions of children that go without food, school and health care on a daily basis. Let alone trick-or treating. I believe that it is human nature to naturally want to take care of someone else. Why not instill that when out kids our young? Why not show them they can have fun while they are doing it? Why not show them they are not too small to make a difference- halfway across the world.

Okay, enough stalling. :) We made Sweet Potato Cauliflower Soup which I found on the OXFAM pinterest page, but the recipe itself originates from Manifest Vegan. Like my husband, don’t go running for the hills until you try this soup. Seriously, I think some vegan recipes have incredibly rich flavo

Please do your child a favor and don’t stop there. Tell them how amazing food is and how amazing it is that we get to taste food from all over the world. But please also tell them about the little child on the other side of the food. Tell them about the family that works very hard to bring in their crop of pineapple, rice or cacao and does so very often for a small amount. Tell them that these families probably don’t have everything that we do.

Social media is an amazing and simple tool that anyone, including me can use. It does not require money, it does not require technical skill. It only requires a little bit of time and a lot of passion. I have long had a passion to help others in a more than meaningful way and social media has been an amazing avenue for this.
